Strangerwatching
Embodiment as a performative research

During the last 50 years, anthropologists and artists have questioned exactly this process of watching and studying “the other” and the reasons why that should still be done. With this workshop we would like to consider the performer as a scientist and to explore the temporal dimension, the risks and the opportunities of a similar bodily study.
___

Is it possible doing this through the embodiment of a stranger?
___

We would like to invite you to join this research, exchanging your experience and knowledge together with us and the other participants. We are going to use different experimental and personal tools like real-time observation and memorization, notes taking, gestures and actions composition and narration.
___

Please note:
  • bring comfortable clothes;
  • previous basic performative experience is required;
  • there are no limitation towards the age, gender nor discipline of performative arts;
  • the workshop will be held in English (also translated to polish);
  • the maximum size of the group is 20 people after a registration.

Simone Basani and Alice Ciresola (IT/BE) are an artist and curator duo currently in residency at CCA - Laznia. They create collective services and educational devices for communities and cultural institutions. They  are researching on a performative and relational methodology for observing, memorizing and reporting the presence of another person in a  given context. For their residency they are working on transcultural and transhistorical narrations (body/voice/movement) conceived by and for Gdansk citizenship, on the border between the museum and the public spaces. The Strangerwatching workshop is part of this research. Basani and Ciresola are currently on the artistic resideny in LAZNIA CCA, in the frames of the international project “Artecitya”, financed by the European program Creative Europe 2014-2020.
